Writer · Producer · Director · Animator

Author David Wilcox is about as 'eclectic' an individual as you could ever imagine. As a beach lifeguard in his hometown of Oceanside, California, throughout high school and college, he saved scores of lives. He worked during college at Disneyland for the Walt Disney family, Retlaw. He was a highly decorated police officer and received the country's highest civilian lifesaving award from the Commandant of the US Coast Guard. He won numerous gold medals in swimming in the California Police Olympics. He has taught life sciences at a community college and coached high school and age group swimming. He has also been an award-winning writer, producer, and animation director; a nationally ranked major account advertising executive for a Fortune 5 company; and a respected media consultant. His diverse list of accomplishments continues, now with book and screenplay author added to the list.

David's friends often refer to him as a true 'Renaissance Man.' (However, we will not go into what his enemies have to say about him. It is not pretty.) His love of animation and film brought him across the country to Regent University, in Virginia, where he graduated at the top of his class, earning a master's degree in communications. He has earned several additional college degrees ranging from communications, criminal justice and life sciences to electronics.

While at Regent University, he won a student Academy Award for his animated film, 'If Your Eye Offendz Thee', an excerpt of which appeared in the 2021 feature film 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye' starring Jessica Chastain. He has written, produced, directed, and even animated projects ranging from thirty-second promotional spots to one-hour animated specials. He was the inspiration behind and founder of CBN Animation for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) as well. A prolific and creative writer, he has recently written several animation and live-action screenplays and a sit-com pilot.

David R. Wilcox is also the former bodyguard for Pat Robertson, who was perhaps the most polarizing and controversial televangelist in the country. Pat Robertson was a media mogul. He founded the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), hosted the 700 Club television program for decades, and ran for President in 1988. Among his other ventures, Robertson founded the controversial Christian Coalition, headed by the duplicitous and hypocritical Ralph Reed.

As a result of his position, Wilcox was often privy to many scandalous details about the backroom operations of both CBN and the Christian Coalition. He has released two revelatory exposé-style books — "Protecting Pat Robertson: Confession of a High-Priced Bagman" and "The Trial of the Devil Incarnate – Ralph Reed: God's 'Flim Flam' Man" — that reveal what life was like protecting Pat Robertson, providing a behind-the-scenes look at CBN, his daily 700 Club television program, and exposing the various illegalities committed by both Pat Robertson and Ralph Reed during and after his leadership of the Christian Coalition.

"Protecting Pat Robertson: Confessions of a High-Priced Bagman" gives readers an inside look at the unvarnished truth about Pat Robertson and his CBN 'kingdom.' It documents Robertson's passion for money and political influence — including his secretly partnering with brutal African dictators in gold and diamond mining operations, his use of 700 Club broadcasts to divert Operation Blessing donations to finance his privately owned diamond mining company (as documented in the film 'Mission Congo'), and his unlawful exploitation of CBN's tax-exempt donor mailing list to solicit funds for his 1988 presidential campaign — a move that resulted in over 600 ministry workers losing their jobs.

"The Trial of the Devil Incarnate – Ralph Reed: God's 'Flim Flam' Man" exposes the duplicitous and hypocritical career of Ralph Reed, former leader of the Christian Coalition and one-time Time magazine cover subject billed as "The Right Hand of God." The book provides irrefutable proof — in the form of sworn testimony, emails, and verified documents — that Reed engaged in multiple felonies, including conspiracy to commit bribery, mail and wire fraud, money laundering, and federal RICO Act violations. Unlike his fellow conspirators Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon, who were convicted and imprisoned, Reed was protected from prosecution by powerful GOP allies. The book received the 2025 International Impact Award for Religion, Faith & Social Justice.

The book uses the innovative mechanism of a fictional U.S. Senate Investigative Committee Hearing where Reed is questioned 'under oath' as the sole witness — creatively revealing the shameful facts about the man the Huffington Post labeled "one of the monumental hypocrites of our time," including his staunch public opposition to legalized gambling while secretly accepting nearly $4 million to protect Indian casino operations in Louisiana.

As rock-and-roll legend Elvis Presley said, "Truth is like the sun… You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away." And as it says in the good book: "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)

David Wilcox is an award-winning screenwriter, author, and animation writer-producer-director whose work spans feature films, television, books, podcasts, and digital media. Through his company Big Fat Cat Productions, LLC, he develops high-concept live-action and animated projects, including the ensemble comedy caper "Angry Geezers!", the family animated adventures "Critter Camp" and "Young DaVinci", and the sci-fi family animation "Scooter Murphy: Space Marshal."

As the Founder and former head of CBN Animation for the Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach, Wilcox has written, produced, and directed multiple award-winning animated projects for CBN and The Family Channel. His animated short graduate school project, "If Your Eye Offendz Thee," won a Student Academy Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. An excerpt from his film appeared in the feature film "The Eyes of Tammy Faye", starring Academy Award-winning actress Jessica Chastain.

Wilcox holds an M.A. in Communication from Regent University (Summa Cum Laude and the Outstanding Communication Student honors). As a highly decorated former first responder, he is a multiple gold-medal winner in swimming at the California Police Olympics, a U.S. Coast Guard Silver Lifesaving Medal recipient — the highest honor issued to civilians — and was a nationally recognized advertising and marketing sales executive for a Fortune 5 company. His lifetime experience and diverse background contribute to his character-driven, highly visual storytelling.
